The Wandering

Nobody remembers whose cat Muffins was, or if she was ever really anybody's. She showed up on the gravel trail behind the tree line the way small, self-employed things do — already there, already unbothered, already convinced the woods were hers.

The Stand

The bear came out of the brush the way bears do: unhurried, enormous, incurious. Four hundred pounds of "this is my trail now." Muffins did not run. Muffins did not hiss and slink away like a creature with a sense of scale. Muffins squared up.

She threw one paw — a single, contemptuous swipe at the air between them — and held her ground like the outcome had never been in question. The bear blinked, leaned back on its haunches, and did the last thing anyone expected: it retreated. Not a full flee. Just a slow, dignity-saving step back, the universal body language for okay, we don't need to do this.

The Legend Spreads

There was no news crew. No park ranger report. Just the story, passed hiker to hiker, growing a little each time it changed hands — until "small cat startled a bear" became "small cat defeated a bear," which is the version that deserved to survive.

Muffins never asked to be a legend. She was just doing what cats do best: refusing, on principle, to be the smaller party in the room. $MUFFINS exists to keep that principle on-chain — a coin for holders who'd throw the paw too.
